Buckets

Buckets

Buckets are the unit of storage in Altertable. They store the files behind lakehouse catalogs and file-backed external catalogs.

Buckets are object storage locations, so storage scales independently from compute. Workers can come and go while Buckets keep catalog data durable, portable, and ready for future queries.

Supported providers

Altertable can connect to object storage from:

Managed Buckets

Managed Buckets run on Altertable infrastructure and are the default for new environments. Today, managed Buckets are Cloudflare R2 buckets available in Europe (Germany).

We can provision managed Buckets on AWS or Google Cloud on demand for teams with cloud, residency, or procurement requirements.

Bring your own bucket

Bring your own bucket is designed for teams that already have object storage in their cloud provider. Connect an existing bucket from AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, or another S3-compatible provider so lakehouse data stays in the account, region, and governance boundary you already operate.
