Agentic

Altertable is built for agentic workflows where assistants and automation work from the same governed data and business context as your teams and applications. Agents can query live data, review saved work, reason over shared definitions, and help move investigations forward without raw, ungoverned database access.

This section covers how to connect agents to Altertable through supported interfaces.

There are two layers to that story:

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the open integration surface. Any MCP-compatible client can connect to Altertable's hosted MCP server, authenticate with OAuth, and use governed tools to explore environments, run SQL, review dashboards and insights, and more. Start here when you want the protocol-level picture, client setup, and authentication details.

  • Claude Plugin is our opinionated bundle for Claude Code & Claude Desktop: a marketplace plugin that ships Altertable-specific Skills together with the same MCP server, plus a router command so Claude can pick the right workflow. Use this when you are standardizing on Claude and want ready-made skills on top of raw tools.

If you only need one mental model: MCP is the contract; the Claude plugin is a curated client experience on top of it. You can adopt MCP alone, or MCP plus the plugin when you want Claude-specific workflows.
