# Set up Cursor

The Altertable Cursor plugin packages Altertable Skills and the hosted MCP configuration. Cursor loads it as a [Cursor Plugin](https://cursor.com/docs/plugins) from `.cursor-plugin/plugin.json`.

## Quick start

1. Open the project where you want to use Altertable. If **Altertable** is available in Customize → Plugins, install it there and skip steps 2 and 3.

2. Add the Altertable marketplace from Settings → Customize → Browse Marketplace → Add Marketplace, then enter `https://github.com/altertable-ai/skills`.

   From the Agent CLI:

   ```bash
   agent plugin marketplace add https://github.com/altertable-ai/skills
   ```

   Team and Enterprise admins can instead import `https://github.com/altertable-ai/skills` from Dashboard → Plugins.

3. Install **Altertable** from Customize → Plugins, or type `/plugin` in the Agent CLI and install it from the Marketplace tab.

4. Start a new agent session so Cursor loads the plugin.

5. Ask Cursor to analyze a real workflow:

   ```text
   Analyze my signup funnel from landing page to account creation.
   ```

The first Altertable tool call opens OAuth authorization in your browser. Choose the organization and environment Cursor should access, then return to Cursor.

## Verify

Ask Cursor:

```text
Use Altertable to list my available catalogs.
```

Cursor should call `initialize` first and then inspect the catalogs.

Install at user scope when the plugin should follow you across projects. Install at project scope when every contributor should use the same version.

### Choose between Skills, MCP, and the CLI

Use Skills for workflow guidance, MCP for interactive Altertable operations, and the CLI for terminal automation, CI, ingestion, or structured JSON. The CLI is optional and installed separately; Cursor can use it alongside MCP.

## Update

Refresh the marketplace, then install the available Altertable update from Customize → Plugins or `/plugin`.

## Troubleshooting

- **Plugin is missing:** open Customize → Plugins, confirm that the Altertable marketplace is present, then install **Altertable**.
- **Skills do not appear:** start a new agent session after installation or update.
- **MCP server is disabled:** open Customize and enable the Altertable MCP server.
- **Authorization does not finish:** complete the browser flow opened by Cursor and choose an organization and environment.
- **Wrong environment is connected:** remove the Altertable MCP connection and authorize it again with the correct environment.
