Set up ChatGPT

The Altertable plugin gives ChatGPT access to Altertable Skills and the hosted MCP server.

Install the Altertable plugin

  1. Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → Plugins.
  2. Click Add → Add a marketplace.
  3. Enter https://github.com/altertable-ai/skills.
  4. Click Add marketplace.

Connect and authorize Altertable MCP

  1. Find the Altertable plugin and click Install plugin.
  2. ChatGPT will try to connect Altertable MCP and open the Altertable authorization page:
    • Select your organization.
    • Select your environment.
    • Keep the mode set to Read-only unless ChatGPT needs to change persistent resources.
  3. Click Authorize, then return to ChatGPT.
  4. Start a new ChatGPT chat. Altertable MCP should appear as connected, and the Altertable Skills should be available.

Verify

Start a new chat and enter:

@Altertable list my available catalogs

ChatGPT should use Altertable, call initialize, and then inspect the available catalogs.

Use

Prefix a question with @Altertable:

@Altertable analyze web traffic for the last 30 days and call out meaningful changes

You can also use /ask-altertable to let Altertable choose the right workflow or /query-altertable for a direct data question:

/query-altertable show daily signups for the last 30 days

Tools

  • Altertable Skills guide ChatGPT through exploration, SQL, funnels, web traffic, insights, and platform operations.
  • Altertable MCP provides governed access to catalogs, queries, insights, findings, and tasks.

Update

Open Settings → Plugins to check the Altertable marketplace for updates. Install an available update, then start a new ChatGPT chat so it loads the latest skills.

Troubleshooting

  • Plugin is missing: return to Settings → Plugins, confirm that the Altertable marketplace is present, and install the plugin again.
  • Skills do not appear: confirm that the plugin is installed, then start a new ChatGPT chat.
  • MCP is not connected: open the Altertable plugin and reconnect Altertable MCP.
  • Authorization does not finish: complete the authorization page, select an organization and environment, and then return to ChatGPT.
  • Wrong environment is connected: disconnect Altertable MCP and authorize it again with the correct environment.
